Shenanigans. Shenanigans. Shenanigans. This past week was just filled with so many shenanigans, it was great.
On Tuesday I went to a Markus Schulz and Armin van Buuren concert. It was my first concert where the musician is a dj, and normally I'm not really into that music. I don't mind it but I don't love it. Before the concert I met up with JJ and Colt in Plaza de Espana to grab a drink. We wandered around that area for a little bit looking for a place to stop into. The first place we went into had a guy outside leaning against a motorcycle and woman who was clearly a hooker standing by the door on her cellphone. I already had a strange/dirty vibe from the place, but I followed Colt in. Behind the door was one set of curtains, and then another set a few feet behind it. We walked through both sets and into the small bar area. There were hookers on the couch and on some of the bar stools all on their cellphones. I was ready to be like 'guys lets leave, we are not in a bar', when the guy from outside walked in a got behind the bar. Colt asked for a tequila shot and the guy said it would be 10 euros, then we left. Once outside I looked at Colt and JJ and told them that that was definitely a brothel. They both agreed and Colt said that for all we know 'tequila shot' was a code for something. After that experience we headed to small little restaurant/bar. JJ and I each had one shot and then decided that we didn't really want to drink. Then Heather met up with us too and we headed to the concert.

When we got off the metro we had to walk up a long hill to get to the concert venue. All up and down this hill were Spaniards pre-gaming the concert. It was packed. We got to the top and then waited for other kids who were coming as well. When we walked in we went straight down to the floor to watch Markus Schulz. Once I got into it I really liked it and had so much fun. At first I felt a little awkward but I got more comfortable and then had a blast. When Armin came on we tried to get as close to the front as possible. Colt, Nate, JJ and I ended up in a mob of people at the front of the stage. I don't really like being in mobs of people, I feel claustrophobic. Everyone was pushing forward and it was veering on being a mosh pit. I was little ahead and little to left of Colton when all of a sudden my section surged forward. I was squished between people and my feet weren't touching the floor, I was just hanging out in mid air. Colt saw the look of pure terror on my face, got to me and pulled me out. We stayed for the entire concert but towards the end of it we moved upstairs to sit down and wait until the metro opened.

pre-metro nap
Around 5:45 am we headed down to the metro. As we were walking out of the venue we saw a guy being chased by the cops. The guy was holding a broken bottle and using it like a knife to keep the cops at bay. He started running and all of sudden there were 20 cops on him, they caught him and then pinned him up against a fence. It was rather entertaining. The entire walk down was covered with trash. Beer bottles, soda bottles, and liquor bottles were strewn everywhere. JJ and I ran into Taylor and Edgar also waiting at the metro and met some guys from Canada who were also studying abroad here. We all got on the metro and the parted ways at our transfers. I was getting on my metro line home and went to sit in one of the seats. There were these two massive bouncers sitting in two seats and one of them called at me and patted the seat next to him. I ended up sitting directly across from them. It was really awkward. I didn't know where to look, because if I looked straight ahead I was looking directly at them. So I just turned up my music and zoned out at the floor. I got home at 7 am and fell asleep immediately I was so exhausted. We didn't have class Wednesday so I got to sleep all day. |
Wednesday night came around and I was feeling energized after sleeping all day. Lian and I headed to Gabana again. Last time we went we missed the free beer and wine 2 hours and Lian was adamant that we wouldn't miss it this time. So we got there much earlier than the last time, and a little earlier than we had anticipated. It was closed. So we wandered around the neighboorhood Gabana is in for a while before we headed back and we went back. . . it was still closed. At that point we knew we had gotten something wrong. Turns out it started a hour later that night than it has in the past. Whoops. My friend Adam from UCSB met up with us at the metro stop near Gabana. After informing him of our screw up, Adam took us to El Tigre because Lian and I hadn't been there yet. To get there we had to walk up Calle Montera, otherwise known as hooker way. Not joking. Hookers stand next to all the trees up and down the street, and there's usually upwards of 15 at any time. We saw an 80 year old man pick one up. It is one ridiculous place to people watch, let me tell you. We got to El Tigre, had some delicious tapas and sangria, and then headed back to the metro. On our way back to the metro we saw a hooker walking towards us who was only wearing a see through lace body suit and massive boot heels. EV-ER-Y-THING was visible. And when I saw everything I mean everything. As we walked past her, she leaned over and said "hola" to Lian. In the deepest voice ever. It was definitely a man. We all just looked at each other like 'did that really just happen?' and then started cracking up. When we got to the metro Adam went home because he being a little baby and wanted to sleep, but Lian and I headed back to Gabana.

Double the Trouble |
We got to Gabana and there were actually people there this time, which was good. We went in and got some free beer and wine. We ran into a couple USD kids and some kids of the Wisconsin kids I play soccer with. One of them promotes there so he got us some free shots. Gotta love knowing people in high places. Then we took it to the dance floor. At point in the night I was dancing and Lian and this guy were dancing next to me. I tried to make it as not awkward as possible but I didn't really know where to go, so I was that cool kid dancing by herself next to them. Out of no where some random Spaniard came up and gave me his free drink coupon. I turned it down at first because I didn't want to feel obliged to talk to him, but he insisted and said he was leaving. Sweettt. Then I realized that he must of saw me awkwardly third wheeling it and thought "that bitch needs a drink." Thank you for your generosity random Spaniard, I did. At one point this guy got tackled by some girl into a table a knocked everything over. Lian and I saw the whole thing, it was hilarious. Soon after that Lian and I decided to grab a cab and head home, it was probably around 3:30 am. We had him drop us off at the beginning of our street then walked the block and a half left. As we were walking a car pulls up next to us and rolls down its passenger side window. A guy then stuck his head out the window and started yelling "hola chicas." This is pretty normal, I just put my head down and kept walking, Lian did the same but started to speed walk. I laughed to myself at Lian thinking it was funny she freaked out so much because they were in a car and they would yell and just drive by Then the car stopped. And the guy who had been yelling got out. I booked it to catch up to Lian while the guy started yelling at us in rapid Spainsh. We didn't even bother to attempt to understand, because half the time you really don't want to understand what they are yelling. But then I hear him yelling "Policia! Policia!" and the normal car that he had gotten out of turned on sirens and hidden lights. I turned around and saw that he had pulled a badge out of his normal street clothes. . . . . . . . .Uhhhhhh yeah. Lian and I stop and the guy starts to berate us in Spanish "where did you come from? where are you going? why didn't you stop?" I attempt to explain that we're exchange students going home. Once he figured out we didn't stop because we didn't know what he was saying he cooled off a little bit. He then asks if we had seen two guys with brown hair around here, but he wouldn't explain why but just said to be careful. Lian asked "estamos en peligro??" and the cop just said "Uhh no", got in the car, and sped away. Umm well thats encouraging. Lian and I looked at each other and then sprinted the rest of the way home.
The next morning we got up for 9 am classes and then came straight home after and slept all day.
On Saturday night, the one and only Kelsey Schulte was in town so I went to meet her and JJ to go to a hookah bar. I got off the metro stop they told me to, but then we couldn't find each other to save our lives. They had gone out of a different exit at the stop and since neither of us knew the area we were very well it was a struggle. For a good 15 minutes I was standing on a corner on my phone with JJ trying to figure out where I was. People kept staring at me and giving me weird looks but I didn't think anything of it. When I hung the phone I realized I was in front of strip club. Literally standing on the corner. Let's start a slow clap for that special friend moment. I finally found them and we had a great time at hookah. After hookah we went to Dubliners to meet up with O'Libro, Nick, Brett, and Kev. Kelsey and JJ left a hour or so after we got there cause Kelsey had early flight. But before they left we were standing in the middle of the bar talking when all of a sudden someone pushes and grabs me from behind and yells in my ear, scaring me half to death. I yelped and hit the floor, I think my heart stopped for a little bit there. It was Chris O'fuckingLibro and he thought it was the funniest thing he had ever seen. I was sitting with Chris and Brett when Chris went to find his friend from home, who is also studying abroad here, but he said he'd be right back. Brett and I talked and waited, the bar closed so we had to go outside, and we waited and waited. Then Brett texted him and asked him where he was. He was walking to his house. Ohhhhh ok. So I headed home and hopped into bed.
On Sunday Lian, Vito, Breanne, Hannah and I went to our Problem of God teacher's Sunday service. I'm not religious, but I love her as a teacher and I wanted to see what her service was like. I liked a lot, especially some of the non-bibilical stories she told. The next couple of days it was study time because I had Problem of God test on Thursday. And no I didn't go to that service just because I had my midterm that week. . . . . welll not entirely.
And that is the end to that week. Adios!
